This is my last CEO message as my contract
with the AoF will end in mid-July. Please join
me in welcoming Enoch Fung who will be our
next CEO. The AoF is now four years old and it
has grown from a nascent being to a reputable
organisation with remarkable achievements
and increasing brand recognition.

Distinguished Speakers Series

Mr Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO, JPMorgan Chase & Co visited us on 2 June 2023 and had a closed-door conversation about a range of geopolitical, banking and financial issues pertinent to the US, Hong Kong, and international finance with our Members.
On 30 May, Ms Julia Leung, CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) shared the story of her impressive career as a female leader, her insights on virtual assets and how to balance investor protection and market development, the recent banking crisis, green and sustainable finance, and Hong Kong as an international financial centre.

Financial Leaders Programme

Our 2023 Financial Leaders Programme began with a welcoming session on 29 March. A total of 12 interactive dialogues with local and overseas distinguished leaders have been held so far for our cohort, who had the opportunities to engage with these leaders on a diverse range of topics, such as Hong Kong’s distinctive role as an international financial centre, the assessment of imminent risks arising from geopolitical tension, Hong Kong’s ESG development journey, the opportunities and challenges posed by AI’s drastic prevalence, etc. In addition to more dialogues, a field trip to GBA centring around FinTech is also being planned in Q3 for our cohort members.

AoF Roundtable

AoF Roundtable on antitrust, privacy, cybersecurity, sanctions & FDI
On 6 June 2023, the AoF hosted a roundtable discussion with leading experts focusing on new regulations and enforcement trends on antitrust, privacy, cybersecurity, sanctions, and FDI facing companies doing business in the US, EU, UK and Hong Kong.

AoF – CSC Joint Seminar – “China’s Economic Development and Prospects after the 14th National People’s Congress”
On 3 April 2023, the AoF and the Civil Service College (CSC) co-organised a seminar featuring Professor Huang Yiping, Deputy Dean of the National School of Development and Director of the Institute of Digital Finance of Peking University, moderated by Dr Helen Qiao, Managing Director and Chief Economist for Greater China and Head of Asia Economics Research of Bank of America.
IFF Conference
With support from the AoF, the International Finance Forum (IFF) convened a high level conference on 5 May 2023 with the theme “Multilateralism and Globalization in an Era of Strategic Competition and Implications for Asia”.
AoF – HKGFA – HKUST Joint Seminar – “Accelerating the Transition to a Net-Zero Global Economy: Regulatory Climate Disclosure and Risk Analysis”
The AoF together with the Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) and The Hong Kong University of Science Technology (HKUST) co-organised a seminar featuring Mr Ben Weisman, Director of Global Public Policy of The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), moderated by Prof Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist, Institute for the Environment of HKUST on 28 June 2023.
The panelists of the seminar were Ms Grace Hui, CEO of Net Zero Asia; Ms Ivy Lau, Head of Sustainable Finance of Asia Pacific at Mizuho Bank, Ltd and Mr Jean Eric Salata, Chairman of EQT Asia and Head of BPEA EQT.

HKIMR Events

The HKIMR-IMF seminar on “Navigating Through a Challenging World” was successfully held on 17 April by 4 experts from the IMF: Dr John Bluedorn, Dr Jean-Marc Natal, Dr Ashique Habib, and Dr Tomohiro Tsuruga.
The HKIMR-IMF seminar on “Safeguarding Global Financial Stability amid High Inflation and Interest Rates” was successfully held on 25 April by Dr Jason Wu and Mr Thomas Pointek in connection with 2023 Global Financial Stability Report.
A fireside chat on “Asia in a Challenging World” between Mr Krishna Srinivasan (IMF) and Mr Eddie Yue (HKMA) co-hosted by the AoF, HKIMR and IMF was successfully held on 2 May.

HKIMR Research

Presented the key findings of our report on “Cross-boundary Payment and Settlement Systems in the Greater Bay Area” at the seminar organised by the Chinese Banking Association of Hong Kong
Key survey findings
Our survey shows that a majority of financial institutions consider cross-boundary payment and settlement channels essential for supporting their GBA outreach activities
