AoF-HKIMR-IMF seminar on “Asia in a Challenging World”

The Academy of Finance (AoF), the HKIMR and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Hong Kong SAR Sub-Office co-hosted a seminar on “Asia in a Challenging World” featuring a fireside chat between Mr Krishna Srinivasan, Director of the Asia and Pacific Department of the IMF and Mr Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on 2 May 2023.

During the chat, Mr Srinivasan outlined the key messages of the IMF recent Regional Economic Outlook report for Asia and shared his views on the key drivers and risks of the global and regional economy. The dialogue also covered many important issues concerning the regional economy, such as the impact of high inflation and high interest rates, China’s economic recovery and challenges, recent banking turmoil in the US and Europe, and Hong Kong’s most recent developments in areas such as the offshore RMB market, central bank digital currency, and green finance. Views were also exchanged on the evolution of the international monetary system given rising risks of geo-economic fragmentation and rapid technological innovation.

The seminar was attended by 120 participants.
