Thematic Programme on Fintech and Digitalisation
Module 2 – Cryptography and Cyber Security

On 4 May 2021, the Hong Kong Academy of Finance (AoF) conducted a webinar on “Cryptography and Cyber Security” under the Thematic Programme on Fintech and Digitalisation. About 120 AoF Members and senior practitioners in the financial industry participated in the webinar.
Mr Ericson Chan, Group Chief Information and Digital Officer of Zurich Insurance, kickstarted the day by sharing his insights on the latest fintech landscape and how fintech has changed the business model of financial services. Moving on to the regulatory side, Ms Clara Chiu, Director of Licensing & Head of Fintech Unit of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), introduced the SFC’s regulatory framework for virtual assets. Dr K.P. Chow, Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Hong Kong, then introduced the basic ideas and properties of cryptography as well as the security and privacy issues behind blockchain and bitcoin. Finally, Mr Henri Arslanian, FinTech & Crypto Leader, Asia of PwC Hong Kong, shared his insights on the developments of cryptoassets and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), as well as their potential impact on the future of financial services.
