AoF-HKIMR-IMF Seminar on “Asia’s Economic Outlook: Steady Growth amid Diverging Prospects”

The AoF, HKIMR and the IMF Resident Representative Office in Hong Kong SAR jointly hosted a seminar on “Asia’s Economic Outlook: Steady Growth amid Diverging Prospects” on 2 May 2024.

Enoch Fung, CEO of the AoF and Executive Director of the HKIMR, welcomed the IMF team to do the outreach in Hong Kong. Tristan Hennig, Economist from Asia and Pacific Department of IMF, and Anne Oeking, Advisor to Director from Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of IMF presented on the IMF’s Asia and the Pacific Regional Economic Outlook, covering recent developments, the IMF’s growth and inflation forecasts for the region, and the main risks and policy challenges. Following the presentation, Phakawa Jeasakul, the Resident Representative in Hong Kong SAR of IMF moderated a panel discussion session with Johannes Wiegand, Chief of Regional Studies Division from Asia and Pacific Department of IMF, Frederic Neumann, Managing Director, Chief Asia Economist and Co-Head of Global Research Asia of HSBC and Helen Qiao, Managing Director, Chief Economist for Greater China and Head of Asia Economics Research of Bank of America. Panelists discussed extensively on the region’s macro-financial developments and policy challenges.

The seminar was attended by around 90 participants.
