Mr Michael Cheng

Mr Michael Cheng is responsible for leading teams of economists and data scientists to analyse global economic development, examine implications of topical issues, and set up digitalisation/AI tools for transforming work practices.
Michael joined the HKMA in 2008 as an Economist, helping develop and maintain forecasting models of the Hong Kong economy. He was promoted to Senior Manager in 2013 to work for the Chinese Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C. Before taking up the current position in 2020, Michael also worked on financial stability surveillance.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economics from the University of Oxford.
