AoF - HKGFA - HKUST Joint Seminar – “Accelerating the Transition to a Net-Zero Global Economy: Regulatory Climate Disclosure and Risk Analysis”

28 June 2023

The AoF together with the Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) and The Hong Kong University of Science Technology (HKUST) co-organised a seminar featuring Mr Ben Weisman, Director of Global Public Policy of The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), on 28 June 2023.  The seminar was supported by Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) and CDP.

During the seminar, Mr Weisman provided updates on the latest work of GFANZ in transition planning and finance.

Moderated by Prof Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist, Institute for the Environment of HKUST (right), the panellists of the seminar included Mr Ben Weisman (second to the right), Ms Grace Hui, CEO of Net Zero Asia (middle); Ms Ivy Lau, Head of Sustainable Finance of Asia Pacific at Mizuho Bank, Ltd (second to the left) and Mr Jean Eric Salata, Chairman of EQT Asia and Head of BPEA EQT (left).  They discussed the importance of transparency in terms of companies’ ESG disclosure to facilitate better investment decision-making, the setting of practical targets and timeline for realising the energy transition agenda, the balance between sustainable investment return and sustainable ESG projects, the critical role of corporate leaders and how Hong Kong as an international financial centre could mobilise global capital to drive ESG investment in Asia.  A very engaging audience raised a number of incisive questions and the discussions have highlighted some ideas for further thought and follow up work.
